It is important that the horse
has a saddle that matches their back!
Some
horses have extra high withers and need a saddle with a narrow,
high tree; a saddle that rubs the withers will cripple the horse.

Some horses, especially
overweight ones, have a very round back and the saddle is hard to keep
in the middle
of the back, especially when mounting. These
horses require a saddle with a very wide
tree, a breast collar,
and possibly just a hair pad. An overweight person on an overweight
horse is a
dangerous combination! If a saddle with
too narrow of
a tree is used on these horses the pressure points will be damaging to
the back!
